What this is

Skyware is a technical knowledge base for people who design, build and operate drones — from first prototype to BVLOS operations. It's written and maintained as a Steefware side project, driven by genuine enthusiasm for aviation and engineering — not by an agency with a sales funnel behind it.

Why it exists

Most drone teams burn their first year rediscovering the same lessons: a platform chosen before the payload was understood, a battery spec that ignored real hover power, a datalink that died at the exact range the business case needed, a regulatory path discovered too late. The guides here are the reference we wished existed — so we wrote it, and made it free.

The editorial rules

  • Free, no catch — no paywall, no ads, no sponsored placements, no affiliate links.
  • Vendor-neutral — products get named when they're genuinely the reference point, never because someone paid.
  • Real numbers over adjectives — every guide aims to be the one you'd forward to a colleague.
  • Corrections welcome — spot an error? Mail it in and it gets fixed, with thanks.

Support the project

Skyware runs on evenings, weekends and coffee. If a guide saved you a bench session or a compliance headache, you can support it on Ko-fi — it keeps the domain paid and the guides coming. Topic requests, corrections and questions: hello@skyware.be.
